LABEL STORY:
Silver moon is part of a set. Silver Moon, Evening Star, and Blue Moon (exceptionally rare) were the original set. Later, Morning Sun replaced Silver Moon in the set of labels created by the packing house.
The image is believed to be a stylized version of the San Fernando Mission. The packing house that used this label was the San Fernando Heights Lemon Association.
In the last years of the 1940's, the packing house was falling on hard times as they could not hire enough workers to wrap and pack the citrus. As a plan to bring back business, they contracted with Columbia pictures to film a movie on the grounds of the packing house. The plan was a success as they were inundated with new workers with dreams of being "discovered" while working in the background of the film.
The movie filmed was called "Freddie the Great". Later it was retitled as "He's a Cockeyed Wonder". The film included Mickey Rooney, Terry Moore, and William Demarest.
With such background, this label carries with it not only a particularly nice image and lettering, but also a great California citrus history story!
